What are Some of the Challenges Veterans Might Face when Transitioning to Civilian Life?

There are several challenges that veterans face as a they re-enter into civilian life that many people can’t even begin to comprehend. It is no small feat to separate from military service and then step back into your life back home without skipping a beat. Most people simply can’t do it. Today, Foxhole Veterans Charity Foundation is here to talk about some of the challenges that veterans face when they reenter into civilian life.

Common Struggles for Veterans Reentering Civilian Life

It is important to attempt to understand some of the challenges veterans face so that you can better support the veterans in your life. This is especially true if someone you love and are close to is going through those transition. Here are some of the challenges you should be aware of:
– Reconnecting with Family: It might seem easy to slip right back into life with your family as a veteran. Everyone missed each other so much that it seems like it would be natural. However, there are usually new routines and other changes that took place while away, and it is much harder than anyone realizes.
– Creating Community: When you are part of a base and community when you are in the military. When you separate from the military, it can be a true challenge to feel the loss of that community.
– Entering the Workforce: Applying for and finding a new job after being in the military for years and years is a difficult feat. It can be difficult as a veteran tries to describe the skills they have had in the military and the experience they gained there as they try to verbalize that to a potential employer.
– Returning to a Job: When returning to a job that a veteran had before leaving with the military, it isn’t a simple process. There are likely changes that have been made to the order of operations while they were away. This means that there can be a steep learning curve involved. It can create anxiety at the thought of potentially losing a job because you are behind.
– Adjusting to a Different Pace: Civilian life doesn’t function at the same pace as like in the military. It can be difficult to learn to adjust to the way the world works outside of the military.
